| I rarely recommend a DVD over a book, but in this case Rocket's Firebird Rescue is actually better than this little storybook. Both feature the same story, but in the book it's so cut down that its namesake, a classic Russian folk bird that flies through Russia spreading music through its wings, appears on only three of eleven page spreads. Unlike the DVD, the book doesn't mention the famous Stravinsky composition. There's nothing wrong with this little paperback, but it certainly isn't a must.
Want to try the real thing? The Tale of The Firebird is a nice hardback of the Firebird fable with beautiful illustrations. As for the music, there's a great CD available by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Stravinsky: The Firebird Suite; Borodin: Music from Prince Igor. |
