PreSchool-Grade 2. Simon the hunter is off on another safari to complete his collection of big-game trophies. But the animals catch wind of his plans and devise a scheme to outwit him. They disguise themselves as trees, rocks, and less-coveted prey. (For example, a pink hippo poses on one leg in a field of flamingos.) Painted in the style of Rousseau, the whimsical illustrations will elicit giggles from youngsters, as each page offers a new costume more ridiculous than the last. Although the anti-hunting refrain at the end of the story is heavy-handed, this is still a good choice for picture-book collections. |
