PreSchool-Grade 2-A tale set in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Upon learning that a storm is predicted, Sergio helps his parents get supplies at the market, put up shutters, and store outdoor furniture. He remains excited, even after adults tell him that "A hurricane is a very serious thing." Sergio's home suffers little damage, though the wind gusts up to 170 miles per hour. In the morning, the child views the destruction in his neighborhood and concludes that he will never forget the hurricane, and hopes to never experience another one. The book gives important information about preparing for a storm and describes some of the destruction caused by wind and waves, while gouache illustrations depict Sergio's experiences during the adventure. A concluding page of facts tells how hurricanes form. Surprisingly, evacuation is not mentioned as an alternative, even though Sergio's family lives on the waterfront. Pair this title with Jonathan London's Hurricane! (Lothrop, 1998) to show how different families deal with a deadly storm.
