| Daisy Dawson dawdles, to the chagrin of her teacher. Last week she was late three times. Not bad, thinks Daisy. That means she was actually on time twice. One morning on the way to school, she stops to save a butterfly from a spider’s web. In thanks, the butterfly gives her the gift of communicating with animals. Now she can talk with animals on a nearby farm, negotiate with the classroom gerbils to return to their cage, and help a lost ant find his home. When Boom, a bloodhound, is impounded, Daisy teams up with a squirrel on a daring rescue attempt. Clear, precise language and well-rounded characters are pluses, as is a plot that moves quickly. Well-placed black-and-white illustrations that grace almost every page capture Daisy’s good nature. The only sour note is the illustrator’s decision to draw a basset hound instead of the bloodhound described in the text. Readers will anticipate planned sequels. | just a great book..I bought it for my 8 year old niece who does not like to read. Once she started she did not want to put it down. |
