| Part graphic novel, part fantasy nature journal, this small, inventive title introduces Sticky Burr, a tiny, spiny, unlikely hero. Like the other burrs in Burrwood Forest, young Sticky is "small and covered with tiny hooks," but he feels different, too; he prefers art and music to the more "prickly" pursuits that the other burrs enjoy. While fleeing a pack of bullies, Sticky inadvertently begins a dangerous adventure that brings new friendships and transforms him from an outsider into a hero. With clear lines and understated, woodsy browns and greens, Lechner's cartoon artwork mixes multiframe spreads of Sticky on the run with pages that are meant to resemble Sticky's journal, offering background explanations about the burr way of life. Dialogue bubbles briskly move the story along, but the whimsical details will encourage kids to linger and enjoy the richly realized world on each page. The messages about triumphing over bullies are overt, but children will eagerly rally behind the small hero and look for future adventures in Burrwood Forest. Engberg, Gillian |

| This book (Sticky Burr) is one of the most fascinating comic books I have ever set my eyes upon. It is exciting and adventurous. His friends are Mossy Burr, Draffle, and Princess Oralee. He saves his village from danger and destruction and is admired by everyone but Scurvy Burr (a BAD Burr) and his sidekick Spiny Burr.
I love this story and I think most kids with a creative imagination and a yearning to read exciting stories will absolutely adore this book. I recommend this book to children of all ages (and adults, too).
This book is definately not a waste of money and time. BUY IT.
