Double Trouble!
Barton and Nancy Jamison are just regular kids. That is until alien clones land in their hometown of Pine Bluff. Now there are two Barts and two Nancys!
BUT (and this is a really big butt) the alien clones, Beta and Gamma, have a totally wacky take on Earth life. Whenever they're around, something always gets messed up.

| Grade 2-4-Twins Barton and Nancy are cloned so that aliens can learn about life on this planet. The boy's look-alike understands some things about Earth, such as what happens when you eat beans, but gets confused about other things, like taking care of the "living" room (feed, trim, fertilize?). The plot revolves around a baseball game and Barton's reliance on "goo-goo farkzop" to get alien superpowers. He manages to hit a double, even though the stuff was really melted ice cream. The neighborhood bully goes from threatening to reveal the existence of the clones to being afraid of a clone invasion. Alien "zaptopkaka" language is sprinkled throughout, but not pronounceable enough to catch on. The clones' literal mistakes are mildly amusing and the situations Barton is faced with are nearly possible, but rarely laugh-out-loud funny. Nancy has a clone, too, but she is not developed at all. There is an audience who would enjoy this book, but it is a limited bunch.

| It used to be difficult to entice my third grade son to read - until now. I am grateful to H. B. Homzie for creating a series that my son found interesting enough to read instead of watching t.v. or playing Gameboy. I actually had to pull it out of his hands because it was past his bed time and he did not want to put this book down! WOW! My son was totally engrossed and was laughing out loud. Of course, I was curious, so I read it after he was asleep... and I was impressed that I enjoyed it, too! Move over J.K. Rowling -- H.B. Homzie has created a great series that appeals to reluctant readers without being scary! She demonstrates a great ability to relate to this age and my son confirmed it by asking when he could get the next book in the series! Thank you, H.B. I would definitely recommend this for everyone's home library. |
