| In advance of the release of the 2010 movie "Iron Man 2", Marvel Comics brought out a series of children's picture books. "Iron Man 2: Iron Man's Friends and Foes" introduces, in a simplified way, the principal characters of the movie, including Tony Stark as Iron Man, Justin Hammer as his business rival, "Rhodey" as Stark's Air Force buddy, Pepper Potts as Tony's long time assistant, Happy Hogan as Tony's driver, and Natalie Rushmore as a paralegal in Tony's company (and as Natasha Romanoff, SHIELD agent). Nick Fury and Ageny Coulson of SHIELD get cameos introducing their organization. Ivan Vanko as the evil Whiplash becomes the reason for Tony Stark to need lots of friends.
The vocabulary in this book is suitable for beginning readers; the illustrations are exciting but easy to understand. The cover art shows Iron Man, Whiplash, Nick Fury, Natasha Romanoff, and War Machine as they appeared in the movie. The actual picture book illustrations are conventional and less threatening art. "Iron Man 2: Iron Man's Friends and Foes" is recommended to parents with children who are beginning to read and who might be interested in the movie. |
