Overview / 简介: |
The cat sanctuary and adoption center known as "The Cat House on the Kings" is the largest in California and has been home, over the years, to thousands of cats and dogs rescued from abuse and abandonment. When Jill Rappaport, Emmy-nominated animal welfare and entertainment correspondent for NBC′s Today show, found out about it, she was inspired to write the story of one little kitten who was rescued and brought to live with five hundred cats! Exclusive photos by Bob Carey and infused with first-hand details only owner and operator Lynea Lattanzio could know, this photographic picture book provides a cats-eye view of life at the Cat House. |

I bought this book in support of cats, fully aware that it's about The Cat House on the Kings, which by itself offers a great story to be told. Too bad more of their wonderful tale wasn't told, along with more pictures of the property and of course, more cat pictures. In fact, with all the cats available for pictures, it would seem that the inside cover pages would have shown as many as possible, but instead there are just different positions of the same cats, placed perfectly on the green grass.
The book is aimed at young children, but it should have been more details, and not so simple, with more '500 cats' hooks for the children to remember and say outloud as it's being read to them. This author missed an opportunity too, to teach about rescue animals, spay/neuter, and being responsible pet owners. Overpopulation is a major issue in our society - or there would not be a Cat House on the Kings - and it's the adults, or parents, reading to their children, who could use a nice reminder about the neglected animals too.
Of course, I'll still give this book to my cousin's granddaughter, who will be 2 years old soon. Unfortunately, I don't expect it to be a favorite book or one she carries around, asking to be read to her repeatedly, and that's disappointing. |
