PreSchool-K–Ann Estelle wants a hat full of ribbons and flowers that would make her the Queen of Easter at the neighborhood parade. Instead, her mother buys her a plain straw hat. Disappointed, the child leaves it outside on the porch. Days later, when her family discovers a robins nest inside it, Ann Estelle seizes the opportunity to trim last years hat, decorating it with a nest and three blue candy eggs. The secular nature of an Easter parade is juxtaposed with the hatching of the robins eggs, making this a book that simply celebrates spring. The highly defined line drawings are filled with vibrant color and warmth. A border of Easter eggs runs across the top of each page, while the bottom border changes motifs–hats, birds, flowers, and hatching eggs. A card-stock paper-doll cutout of Ann Estelle is included.–Martha Topol, Traverse Area District Library, Traverse City, MI |

I rarely review children's books, but picked this book up on a whim as I am a huge fan of Mary Engelbreit. I love her colorful, fun illustrations! This book was cute, had adorable pictures, and a great storyline. I read it to my 5-year-old son, and he enjoyed the story even though it was about a girl. This book is a beautiful, fun read.
Enjoy! |
