The best chapter is about shopping for ingredients; Mudge is welcome in the supermarket, where he has a great time sniffing at the shelves and grabbing a toddler's candy. Bracken's clear pen-and-ink and watercolor pictures also show the intriguing funny-food concoctions Dad and Henry whip up--from a Sweet Potato Shoe and a Tomato Snowman to a Pineapple Sofa--which are bound to get kids laughing, reading, and maybe cooking, too. | This is our favorite of the Henry and Mudge books we have read so far. The illustrations are great and it shows a nice spark of creativity from Cynthia Rylant. We have read it many times. The reading level is perfect at level 2. Nice story, nice illustrations, nice challenge, nice humor. Kid-approved, Parent-approved. |
