Froggy

From Organization / 国外机构评价:
On the occasion of Froggy's parents' anniversary, it's time for the family to head for Chez Yum, a hoity-toity restaurant with tablecloths and flower-filled vases. This means trouble. Froggy only has a few rules to remember--"Be neat, be quiet, and don't put your feet on the table"--but it's absolutely not that simple. Froggy fidgets, shakes salt on his hand and licks it, bangs his spoon on the table, flips his spoon (bonk! oops!), pulls petals off flowers, sucks on sugar cubes (and ice cubes), and then, of course, simply must flop around singing. Just as he's getting down to actually eating, he spies his pretty classmate Frogilina, a guest star from Froggy's First Kiss. This doesn't help matters. As an embarrassed Froggy ducks under the tablecloth, spaghetti and fly sauce goes, well, flying. At that, the whole family gives up and heads to a local diner for burgers and flies. Youngsters will giggle out loud at the oh-so-familiar stunts (and trademark Froggy sound effects) of an irrepressible frog faced with the dreaded Fancy Dinner. This fine addition to the much-loved Froggy series could serve as a lighthearted way to approach table etiquette, but mostly it's just good messy fun. (Ages 3 to 6) --Karin Snelson --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Foreign Customer Review / 国外客户评价:
A good story with nice illustrations, but the message it sends is not necessarily a good one to teach little kids when it comes to manners and listening to mom and dad. Froggy goes to a fancy restaurant with his parents on their anniversary, and he is not on his best behavior! He fidgeted, shook the salt shaker, flipped silverware, and ran around the restaurant. When his spaghetti arrived, he began slurping it noisily. That's when he's seen by Frogilina, the pretty girl frog. Froggy is so discombobulated by seeing her that he accidentally pulls the tablecloth and upsets the spaghetti onto himelf, causing further embarrassment. Froggy's parents then basically say "Oh well," and take him to a burger joint instead. To me, the book sends mixed messages. On the one hand, it seems the author is saying that it's okay to be a kid. But on the other hand, it seems that Froggy gets away with bad behavior, not only without any repercussions, but he even gets a reward! For a funny story with a good message, I recommend Big Bad Bunny by Alan Durant and Guy Parker-Rees.
