| From the author/illustrator of Clara and the Bossy (2006), this brightly illustrated picture book focuses on Clara's little brother Sprout. Although he likes the idea of a car trip with Grandma and Clara to see the giant trees in Bumper's Valley, Sprout is nervous about spending his first night away from his parents. Every time the threesome stop along the highway, Grandma suggests calling the parents and at first Sprout eagerly accepts, but by the second day of their trip, he's more interested in the road ahead than in what he's left behind. Human in all but their physical attributes, the characters are depicted in the cheerful line-and-watercolor art as dressed gerbils. Ohi's expressive drawings make Sprout's emotions as easily understandable as the straightforward plot. The target audience will find plenty to like and to identify with here. Phelan, Carolyn
