Davy
|
Overview / 简介: |
Poor Davy is stuck in the middle. He's too little to go hiking on the mountain with big brother Dan and he's too big to play hop-on-pop with Donny, Daisy, and Dinah. But he's just right whenever the rest of the Rabbit family needs him to do something for them -- like babysit. One day Davy has had enough! He storms out of the burrow and runs to his special hideout to sulk. "No one loves me!" he wails. Davy is wrong, though. His family loves him a lot, and they come up with a wonderful surprise to show him just how much. As in the other books in the popular Davy series, this new story explores common childhood concerns sweetly and sympathetically, capturing middle-child blues with humor and insight.

PreS–The trials and tribulations of being the middle child is the subject of this tale, which stars a rabbit family featured in several other titles. Davy is too small to go hiking with his older brother, but too big to play "hop-on-pop" with his younger siblings. However, it seems that he is just the right size to baby-sit his sister. Of course, Dinah has her own idea of fun activities and they don't coincide with Davy's plans. He feels sorry for himself and runs off. Father Rabbit identifies his son's problem and honors Davy at a party to show how much he is loved and appreciated. All ends well, with the youngster enjoying center stage. Tharlet's pen-and-ink and watercolor illustrations are done in mostly earth tones and reflect the bunny's anguish and joy. The picture of him huddled up with his toy rabbit in the hollow of a tree with Dinah eavesdropping on his conversation is endearing. This story will be enjoyed by middle siblings everywhere.–Sheilah Kosco, Rapides Parish Library, Alexandria, LA |
Foreign Customer Review / 国外客户评价: |
Davy In The Middle is a delightfully entertaining and enthusiastically recommended picturebook about a young rabbit who is fed up with being the middle child. Too big to play hop-on-pop with his little siblings, too small to go hiking with his big brother, but always called upon to do middle-sized chores such as baby sitting, he decides enough is enough and runs to his hideout to sulk. But his family truly loves him, and engineers a surprise to show just how much. Davy In The Middle features whimsical color illustrations by Eve Tharlet and a sympathetic message by author Brigitte Weninger to counter all-too-common middle child blues.
