| Kindergarten-Grade 2—In this endearing story, Davy forms a soccer team with his siblings. The bunnies lament early on that their ball is flat as a pancake. Father digs in the back of his shed and contributes a stuffed leather pouch from which to make a new one. Mother also tries to be encouraging by making red uniform shirts, which, unfortunately, look like flour sacks. Nonetheless, readers can anticipate an exciting game of the underdogs—er, ah, Wild Rabbits—versus a team of bullies—the Big Bad Badgers. Done in soft watercolors, the front endpapers portray the family roster with their enormous bunny ears; final endpapers show the team frolicking with a new black-and-white soccer ball. Children will understand the dream that each player has of overcoming the odds and becoming a star in a favorite sport. Those who have been charmed by Davy and Dinah growing up through picture books such as Will You Mind the Baby, Davy?
