Minnie and Moo
|
Overview / 简介: |
Gr. 1-2, younger for reading aloud. Bovine best friends Minnie and Moo are back in this very funny adventure in which they masquerade as Zorro to set things right on the farm. Cazet's expressive, wonderfully detailed watercolor-and-pencil illustrations depict the hilarious exploits of Juanita del Zorro del Moo and her sidekick Dolores del Zorro del Minnie. Decked out in black boots, masks, and hats, the cows attack the rooster (whom they think is a fox), leaving him with a pink Z on his chest and reeling from the musk of Zorro (aerosol deodorant generously sprayed by Minnie). Equally funny is the scene in which they attack the farmer's long underwear hanging on the clothesline because they believe it to be two bad guys. Kids will delight in the antics of this crazy twosome, and beginning readers will appreciate the generously illustrated, short chapters, the large type, and easy vocabulary. |

Grade 1-3-Cows Minnie and Moo are back in this hilarious spoof. Moo has been thinking again, this time about the olden days when heroes like Zorro ruled the land. She enlists Minnie in her cause to save the world and the two dress up as masked men. Their weapons of choice are a sword with a tube of lipstick taped to the end and a can of aerosol deodorant spray, hence the "musk" of Zorro. The mishaps that follow include attacking an innocent rooster and the farmer's underwear on the clothesline. Unfortunately, in the second case, their attempted signs of the "Z" come out as "P" and "U," and the puzzled farmer and his wife are left pondering the source and meaning of this affront. Cazet's entertaining and endearing story is a fine addition to the series. The lively pencil-and-watercolor illustrations enhance the humorous text. A rollicking good time. |

This is a zany, beautifully illustrated children's book that will have most adults laughing as well.
Minnie and Moo are two cows whose main gift is the ability to give a gallon of milk each day. But Moo, wanting more, and inspired by a book of heroes called "The Musk of Zorro," persuades Minnie that they should and could be heroes. They take their cues from a misread "Zorro" book (or a version written just for cows): "Who was `Zorro'?" Minnie asked. "A famous bull," said Moo. "...he dressed in black and scared away the bad guys with a sword...he marked their shoots with the letter Z." "I'll bet that scared then," said Minnie. [Get ready for punch line:] "That, and the smell, said Moo. The musk of Zorro put fear in their hearts."
So, armed with salvaged costumes. A sword attached to lipstick (to the notorious "Z" on the bad guys), and some deodorant substituting for the musk of Zorro, our two bovine heroines courageously and mistakenly battle a chicken (they thought it was "a fox"), and some pajamas hanging to dry ("bad guys"). While the ending is a little week, it conveys books' potential for imaginative adventure. With 48 pages, colorful illustrations, and two loveable cows featured in other Dorling Kindersley books. Recommended by DK for grades 1-3, this is a very funny book.
