Overview / 简介: |
From decorating the tree to wrapping presents, little dinosaurs love to celebrate Christmas-and everything about it. With ornaments on the branches and carolers singing at the door, the spirit of Christmas is finally here and filling the hearts of families everywhere. But when the stockings are hung on the chimney, and the cookies are left out for Santa, how can little dinosaurs go to sleep? It's so exciting! How can they possibly calm down and behave?

PreS-Gr 2-Yolen and Teague add to their delightful dinosaur canon with this funny, gentle reminder of proper behavior for the most eagerly anticipated of holidays. As in previous titles, the dinosaurs have human parents and each one can be identified by the inclusion of its name in the illustrations. The 10 featured behemoths also adorn the endpapers. Enhancing the hilarity are the cats and dogs in the role of family pets bearing witness to the dinosaurs' antics-such as sneaking out of bed to peek, ripping open presents, deconstructing the tree, pre-licking candy canes, dumping out stockings, and eating Santa's cookies. Don't pass up this exuberant guide to achieving yuletide harmony.-Linda Israelson, Los Angeles Public Libraryα(c) Copyright 2011. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. How Do Dinosaurs Say Merry Christmas is a welcome addition to a series that has captured the hearts of so many young dinosaur lovers. Their parents might look at these books as a way to reinforce rules, but kids take one look at these giant colorful dinosaurs and are captivated. Once again Yolen and Teague combine to issue a rule book for kids, this time about all the things that you should and shouldn't do at Christmas. Does a dinosaur sneak out of bed on Christmas Eve? No, he's tucked in and snoring when Santa arrives. Does a dinosaur "pick off some ornaments, angels and all?" No, "He helps trim the tree so no branches are bare.
As always, the rhyming is top-notch, resulting in a book with a great read aloud flow. Yolen manages to hit quite a few points of good Christmas behavior, without ever becoming heavy handed or getting in the way of Teague's glorious illustrations. They are as colorful, vibrant, and detailed as ever! These dinosaurs have tons of personality, whether they are misbehaving or receiving their presents on Christmas morning. This is an excellent choice for gift giving this Christmas for young toddlers or preschoolers, and a must have for story time. |
