One fine morning Mr. Gumpy decides it's a perfect day for an outing in his little boat. Apparently, plenty of others think so, too. First some children ask to join him, then a rabbit, a cat, a dog, a pig, a sheep... Soon, Mr. Gumpy's boat is precariously full, and there's nowhere for anyone else to go--but overboard! This mild mariner takes everything in stride, though, and his guests are soon bellying up to a nice tea. John Burningham earned the Kate Greenaway Medal, an ALA Notable Children's Book award, and the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for Mr. Gumpy's Outing, and it's no wonder. This gifted and highly original author-illustrator creates a vision of glorious summer with deeply textured, sometimes only suggested, drawings. His tentatively questioning animals are ready to step right out of the pages and quietly join the delighted reader. And the simple, repetitive dialogue will lull the listener as long as it takes the characters to reach the boat's maximum capacity. Even then, there's no big splash--just an understated, Burningham-esque "and into the water they fell." Young readers will never tire of this gentle, comforting storybook. As the mother of nine children I can assure you that Mr. Gumpy's Outing has prize winning appeal. It was often the first book our children asked for by name. Toddlers love the sequencing of the animals entering the boat. The illustrations are equally fascinating to them. I remember one of my little ones asking me in their tiny voice, "What does squabble mean, Mommy?" Even some early lessons on behavior can be gleaned from this timeless toddler favorite. It should be well worn and resting on every child's bookshelf.

安迪分馆lily老师: 和甘伯伯去游河

Mr.Gump(傻瓜先生)有一条船，他要去游河（乘船到河上游玩），孩子和动物依次要求上船，要之Mr.Gump答应他们上船前，Mr.Gump对他们提出了很有预见性的要求，可孩子和动物怎么可能老老实实待在船里呢？于是船终究还是翻了，大家都湿漉漉地游到岸上。这个故事和生活很像，当孩子想做某些事，大人有所预见，于是提出规则和要求，可是最后孩子把事情搞砸了的时候，大人是怒不可遏，大声呵斥，还是像甘伯伯一样面不改色，请大家喝茶呢？可能通过自然惩罚就足以让孩子学会认识规则和遵守规则。

分馆有这本书的原版（硬皮精装1本，纸板书1本），也有中文版本，因此我就不自己翻译了，只负责码字。和甘伯伯去游河，文图【英】约翰·伯宁罕，翻译：林良
甘伯伯有一条船，他的家就在河边。有一天，甘伯伯正要去游河。两个小孩儿说：“我们跟你去好不好？”甘伯伯说：“好是好，只要你们不吵闹。”野兔说：“甘伯伯，我也一起去行不行？”甘伯伯说：“行是行，但是你不能乱蹦跳。”猴说：“我很想坐一回船。”甘伯伯说：“好吧，但是你不能追兔子。”狗说：“可不可以带我一起去？”甘伯伯说：“可以，但是你不能招惹猫。”猪说：“甘伯伯，我能去吗？拜托拜托。”甘伯伯说：“来吧，但是你不能来回晃。”绵羊说：“有空位让我坐吗？”甘伯伯说：“行，但是你不能咩咩叫。”鸡也说：“我们也去行不行？”甘伯伯说：“行是行，但是你们不能扇翅膀。”牛说：“能腾出个位子给我吗？”甘伯伯说：“可以啊，只要你不乱踩东西。”山羊说：“甘伯伯，我能加入你们吗？”甘伯伯说：“欢迎欢迎，但是别乱踢。”
起初，大家都很高兴，但是不久以后... ...山羊乱踢，牛踩乱东西，鸡乱扑翅膀，绵羊咩咩乱叫，猪到处乱晃，狗招惹了猫，猫就去追兔子，兔子乱蹦乱跳，小孩大吵大闹，船就翻了... ...
大家都掉进水里去了。甘伯伯跟山羊跟牛跟鸡跟绵羊跟猪跟狗跟猫跟兔子跟小孩子，一起游水游到岸边，再爬上岸，让大太阳把身子晒干。
甘伯伯说：“我们只好穿过这篇野地，走路回家了。我请你们到我家喝喝茶。”
甘伯伯说：“再见啦，下次再来游河吧。”
