| Pish, who likes things just right, disapproves of Posh's slapdash ways. "If you listened, you would not lose things, or burn toast," scolds Pish, who goes on to declare, "I wish you would listen to me!" Then the Monster Under the Bed (MUB) intervenes, warning Pish and Posh to be careful what they wish for. The brightly colored artwork presents Posh as a kid and Pish as a big sister or mom (it's not entirely clear which). New readers will enjoy the yelling standoffs as much as the turnarounds, when the child does what she is told and it doesn't work out, and the characters' reconciliation is fun, too: the older character learns not to be so bossy, and the younger one gets them both fairy wings. |

| Barbara Bottner has done it again! In Pish and Posh Wish for Fairy Wings, Bottner has brought to life two funny, flawed, quirky fairy characters who are both endearing and oh, so... human! "How can you be a good fairy if you don't get things right?" Pish (who cherishes all things just right) criticizes of Posh (who seems never able to get things just right). But oh... that's where the magic (and the humanness!) comes in. It's Bottner's special genius that she's able to shine a light on the beauty of human imperfection through her characters. She excels at reflecting back to young readers their own funny, flawed, quirky, and endearing humanness in ways they can recognize and relate to. Bottner helps her readers see the humor in themselves, laugh at their own flaws, and feel good about them (and themselves) at the same time. Pish and Bosh Wish for Fairy Wings a true gem. |
